Melka and Alemtsahye Gebrekidan were forced into marriage when they were just 14 and 10, respectively. While most girls never get a “second chance,” these two did. Melka’s marriage was annulled when Ethiopian authorities intervened, and Gebrekidan was trafficked to Egypt before she escaped to the United Kingdom. Melka works to educate girls on their rights and the dangers of child marriage, and Gebrekidan has created a non-profit organization in the UK that works to end the practice.
