In Canada, Shafia “honor” killing trial resumes

As the trial into an alleged honour killing resumes, it remains to be seen if the accused – the mother and brother of three of the victims – will be called to testify.

The father, Mohammad Shafia, spent two days on the witness stand prior to a three-week break. He was the last of 54 witnesses to be heard in the trial that began Oct. 20 and adjourned Dec. 14.

He testified that while he knew nothing of any plot to kill the women, he did agree they deserved their fate.”That’s up to God,” he told the jury.

When Crown counsel Laurie Lecelle asked him, “You believe their actions brought about their rightful deaths?” his answer was a simple,”Yes.”
