Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Brings Honor Violence Center Stage

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, director of the film “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness”, was awarded the Oscar for best documentary short at the 88th Academy Awards. In her acceptance speech, Obaid-Chinoy highlighted the epidemic of honor violence at the centre of her film, saying, “This is what happens when determined women get together…This week the Pakistani Prime Minister has said that he will change the law on honor killing after watching this film. That is the power of film.”
