Gathering at a summit in Canberra, Australian state and territory governments signed a National Compact to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The compact acknowledged that while internationally FGM tends to be associated with African societies, the practice remains widespread in Asia and directly affects many of Australia’s immigrant communities.
