Every person – all men, women, and children are heirs to the rights and freedoms to which they are entitled as human beings.

Any culture, religion, government, or economic system and their corresponding values and traditions must be judged in light of the degree to which they advocate for universal human rights and for their efforts to promote the unrestricted flourishing of all individual human beings.

There should be no special consideration or accommodation granted to any group regardless of its reliance upon sacred texts or private revelations to compel its adherents to obey dictates that violate the above described human rights.

Those groups that fall short of offering energetic support for the full emancipation and freedom of all men, women and children must be condemned in the strongest terms in the in the court of public opinion.

Among the most contemptible practices that must be flushed out and condemned involve the Islamic principles of Sharia law and
female genital mutilation which are completely antithetical to the 1948 Declaration of Universal Human Rights which established the primacy of the principals of the Enlightenment.

It is irrelevant that some my willingly submit to the dictates of those groups falling short of the mandates of universal human rights, they are nevertheless to be broadly condemned.

No responsible person or organization can ever privilege privately held beliefs over the irreducible core of fundamental human rights to which all people are heir.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a champion of those human rights that must be the bedrock of any ethical system, and she deserves our unwavering support.
