Western Shelters Act as Barrier To Honor Killings in Afghanistan

Funding from Western donors has led to the creation of women’s shelters throughout Afghanistan. The shelters, and the idea of a woman’s autonomy, are leading to clashes between traditional Afghan ideals and Western influence. While these shelters are amazing resources, they raise the question of whether the women utilizing them will ever be able to leave their care.
