The United Nations has designated November 27 as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage, a day to raise awareness, elevate the voices of those affected, and renew the world’s commitment to protecting children from this abuse.
This designation is an opportunity to turn greater awareness into greater action.
The global community has set an ambitious goal: to end child marriage by 2030. With that deadline approaching, every year, and every child, matters.
We welcome this recognition. Now we need action equal to the urgency of the problem.
Governments, policymakers, advocates, communities, and all of us have a role to play. Learn about child marriage. Speak out. Support survivors. Advocate for laws that protect children and close loopholes that allow child marriage to continue.
Ending child marriage is possible, but only if we act now.
November 27 should not just be a day to recognize the problem. It should be a day to recommit to ending it.
