The team at AHA Foundation was honored and humbled to receive, alongside our partners at the law firm Reed Smith, the LawWorks (in partnership with A4ID) Best International Pro Bono Award 2022 for our work creating free legal guides for survivors of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the U.S. to help them seek justice in their states. You can find out more about this important work here. On hearing the news, AHA’s Executive Director George Zarubin was thrilled:

“To receive this award from such a prestigious organization as LawWorks, which does great work helping people to access free legal advice in the UK, is a deeply meaningful testament to the importance of our work in assisting survivors of FGM. I hope this award raises the profile of our freely available legal guides so that we can help more women and girls find justice for the horror they went through. Thank you, LawWorks, for this great honor.”

And AHA’s Director of Policy and Women’s Programs Michele Hanash had this to say:

“It is a privilege to work with the fantastic team at Reed Smith to develop legal guides for FGM survivors, and an honor to have this work recognized by LawWorks. As a survivor-founded organization, this project is deeply meaningful to us at AHA. Reed Smith’s pro bono commitment to helping us provide survivors with access to understanding their legal rights is both remarkable and invaluable.”

The whole team at AHA Foundation wishes to express their gratitude to LawWorks. Such recognition only inspires us to fight even harder to defend the rights of women and girls in the U.S.
