Child marriage has become a major problem in the United States, not just abroad. Between 2000 and 2010 3,853 children we married in New York State alone. While most states set the legal age for marriage at 18, there can be exceptions if there is parental or judicial consent. Additionally, some judges make exceptions when the bride is pregnant or has given birth.
