Egypt: First Ever Conviction against Performing FGM

Though FGM has been illegal in Egypt since 2008, no court has prosecuted anyone for performing the procedure until now. Raslan Fadl will serve over two years in prison for performing FGM on a girl who later died from complications. Advocates are hailing this conviction has a big success in the process of eradicating FGM, which 90 percent of Egyptian women undergo.
