New Report Highlighting Worldwide Problem of FGM

UNICEF released a report highlighting the global problem of female genital mutilation (FGM). According to the report, at least 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone female genital mutilation in 30 countries. The report shows that half of the women and girls who have been victim to the practice have come from Egypt, Ethiopia and Indonesia. Additionally, girls 14 and younger account for 44 million of those who have undergone FGM. The report emphasizes the need to address this issue starting with FGM’s inclusion in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
