New York State Assembly Member Amy Paulin passed legislation through the New York State Assembly and Senate regarding female genital mutilation (FGM). The bill is meant to educate and raise awareness of FGM, particularly the practice of ‘vacation cutting.’ As of 2013, New York was the state with the second largest population in danger of undergoing FGM, with an estimated 48,000 women and girls at risk.
