Event Description:

AHA Senior Director Amanda Parker spoke to students at the University of North Carolina about the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM): what it is, why it’s practiced, where it’s practiced, and it’s prevalence in the U.S. and North Carolina.

Following her presentation, Ms. Parker conversed with North Carolina State Senator Joyce Krawiec about the FGM legislation she had recently introduced into the North Carolina State Senate. Following this event, Sen. Krawiec’s bill was passed into law and North Carolina now has an A-rating on AHA’s FGM grading scale for state legislation.
