Take Action: Demand Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation

15 states in the U.S. still do not have any laws protecting girls from this child abuse. With the federal law in legal limbo, we cannot waste one more day. We are calling on our supporters in the 15 states to demand their legislators prioritize women and girls in their state by banning this practice. Alabama

Alabama bill HB53 passed in the House of Representatives and is now pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Contact your state senator and ask that they support HB53 for passage this year.

SB74 was introduced by the Joint Committee on the Judiciary February 11, 2020. Contact your state legislators and ask that they support SB74.

Hawaii

Anti-FGM bills HB132 and SB1434 didn’t pass when they were introduced in 2019, but they’ve been reintroduced in 2020. They haven’t moved forward in the 2020 session. Contact your state legislators and ask that they support the passage of an anti-FGM bill this legislative session.

Kentucky

SB72 passed in the Senate and has moved onto the House. A companion bill, HB285, has been introduced in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Contact your state representative in the House and ask that they support the passage of an anti-FGM bill this legislative session.

Massachusetts

H4606, the newest draft of the Massachusetts FGM bills, has been reported favorably out of the House Judiciary committee and referred to the committee on Health Care Financing. Contact your state legislators and demand that they support the passage of H4606 this legislative session.
