Jane used to be a ‘cutter’ in Kenya who performed female genital mutilation on women as part of local custom. She recently stopped after one of the women she performed FGM on died during childbirth due to complications arising from the procedure. She is now part of a group that advocates against FGM. This article chronicles Jane’s story and addresses the prevalence of FGM worldwide.
