Underage Brides in Turkey
Nuriye Kadan stated that 1/3 of Turkey’s marriages involve underage brides at a recent conference. Kadan is an Izmir Bar Association Central Executive Board member and women’s rights advocate. She said that this statistic could be even higher since many marriages in Turkey are performed with just an imam present and therefore are not registered by the government.
