Fight to End FGM in India

A group of women in India who were subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM) in their youth are calling on the government to ban the practice. These women are describing FGM as ‘child abuse.’ In India, FGM is carried out by the Dawoodi Bohra community, a Shia Muslim sect thought to number over 1 million. The movement to end FGM was started by Masooma Ranalvi who began an online petition.
