There’s no honour in murder

Honour killings have no place in our society: that was the message from a hushed courtroom Wednesday as Kamikar Singh Dhillon was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years for the “brutal” knife slaying of his daughter-in-law Amandeep. “Kamikar Dhillon displayed a chilling mindset in terms of his motivation as he tried to justify his actions as the right thing to do,” Justice Bruce Durno said, in accepting a joint submission from Crown attorney Steve Sherriff and defence lawyer Maurice Mirosolin. “It is not now and never will be the right thing to do. Anybody inclined to do so will be given a life sentence,” Durno said.
