Legislative protections for women’s rights

Founder of the AHA Foundation, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, was recently interviewed on PBS’s Firing Line, exposing the issue of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the United States. She discusses why we hesitate to protect girls, and how the movement to end this horrific practice is similar to, as well as how it differs from, the #metoo movement.

Watch Ayaan’s interview above to learn more about the practice of FGM and what must be done to end the practice in the US.

For 10 years, the AHA Foundation has fought to protect women and girls by ending the practice of FGM in the U.S. While there have been many victories throughout the years, much more work remains to keep girls in this country safe from FGM. 23 states still fail to protect their girls by criminalizing the practice. Doctors, social service and other professionals who are likely to encounter victims do not know how to recognize and prevent this form of child abuse.
